Sony shares Tokyo Game Show 2019 plans, no press conference planned

Sony shares Tokyo Game Show 2019 plans, no press conference planned

Sony has officially unveiled its plans for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2019. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia, the gaming giant will be showcasing a number of games at the PlayStation booth on the show floor from September 12 to 15. The big missing piece, however, is the lack of an actual press conference.

The booth will feature playable demos of upcoming PS4 games like Final Fantasy VII RemakeNioh 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as well as PlayStation VR demos for Space Channel 5 VR Kinda Funky News Flash! and Marvel’s Iron Man. Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding will also have a presentation at a mega-theatre, and Sony is hosting a special match of Modern Warfare with professional esports teams.

There will also be a series of stage events over the course of Tokyo Game Show 2019, with developers sharing gameplay demos. These presentations will be live-streamed, so global fans can still learn more about the likes of Nioh 2 and Final Fantasy VII Remake. The full schedule will be announced at a later date.

Having made the decision to skip E3 2019 entirely since entering into the industry back in the 90s, not holding a conference at TGS still comes as a surprise to many.

PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019,” stated a PlayStation spokesperson before E3, and the company also decided not to host a PlayStation Experience in 2018. Tokyo Game Show 2019 is one more event that will lack the presence of a Sony press conference.

However, the Japanese gaming stalwart did make a substantial appearance at ChinaJoy, and was rewarded with a favorable response from one of the largest markets that are untapped.
With the next-generation console set to be revealed and released in the next two years, perhaps it is a sign that Sony is keeping its cards close to its chest in order to have a stellar launch for the PS5.
