Set up file sharing on a Mac
To share files between a Mac and a Windows, you need to change some settings. First, you must allow your Mac to share its files. Follow these steps to do this:
-Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
-Go to System Preferences> Sharing .
-Check the box next to File Sharing in the left pane.
-Click the Options button and a new window will open.
-Check the box next to Share files and folders using SMB.
-In addition, select the Share files and folders with AFP checkbox.
-In the Windows File Sharing section below, select the check box ---next to each user whose files you want to share.
-Enter the users' passwords.
-Click Done .
You will now be back in the sharing window. Then you need to choose the folders and users that you will share with your Windows computer. Press the Plus (+) and Minus (-) buttons under Shared Folders and Shared Users to set your preferences.
Finally, you should note the IP address of your Mac . You will see this under the File Sharing message.

Access Mac files on Windows
It is now time to go to your Windows computer. Follow the instructions below to transfer files from Mac to Windows:
- Open the file explorer .
- -In the address bar at the top of the window, type \\ followed by the IP address of your Mac. This should look like this: \\ 192.168.1.68 .
- -A new window will open asking you for a username and password .
- -Enter the credentials exactly as they appear on your Mac.

The File Explorer displays the folders and users that you have added to the Shared Folders and Shared Users lists on your Mac. You can move, edit, and copy folders just like any other Windows folder. Set up file sharing on Windows
To get started, you need to make sure that network discovery is enabled in Windows. Turn on your Windows PC and follow the steps below:
-Open the Control Panel application and go to Network and Internet .
-On the right pane, click View Network Status and Management
-Under Change your network settings, select Change advanced share settings .
-Check the box next to Enable Network Discovery
-Check the box next to File and Printer Sharing .
-Click Save Changes .
( Note : we do not recommend enabling network discovery or file sharing on public networks, which are usually much less secure than private networks, but use one of the other options that we will discuss briefly later. )
To share folders, right-click the folder name and select Properties> Sharing> Sharing Network Files and Folders> Share .
